Bhubaneswar: The heat wave and severe heat wave prevailing across Odisha seems to be getting worse by the day making life intolerable across the state. For instance, Jharsuguda recorded 37.4°C as early as 8.30 am on Sunday, while Sambalpur came close with 36.4°C.
The day temperature (maximum temperature) was above 30°C in at least 10 locations in the state. What is worse is that the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has predicted that severe heat wave conditions will prevail for another two days before the monsoon sets in Odisha.
Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Balangir are likely to experience a severe heat wave today, while a yellow warning for heat wave has been issued for Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nuapada.
People have been advised to take necessary precautions to avoid the hot temperature and not venture out of their homes between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm unless unavoidable. In addition, they have been advised to intake lots of fluids to keep them hydrated.
