Malkangiri: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday nabbed Simanchal Sahu, Revenue Inspector of Sindhirimal Circle under Sadar Tehsil in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on charges of taking Rs 25,000 bribe from a complainant.
According to Shushant Kumar Vashal, DSP, Vigilance, the state government sanctioned a compensation of Rs 7.31 lakh to the families displaced due to the under-construction airstrip in Malkangiri district. The government had acquired 1.5 decimal land of Mayarani Mandal of Gaudguda Panchayat and Sahu had demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from her to release the compensation to her.
Mayarani raised the issue with the higher authorities and the Vigilance sleuths set a trap for RI Simanchal Sahu. When Sahu was receiving the bribe from Mayarani on Wednesday, they caught him red-handed. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Simanchal Sahu.
A case has been registered at the Koraput Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment Act), 2018.
While further investigation is underway against Sahu, simultaneous house searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Sahu from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle.
