The accused persons have been booked under sections 302, 201 and 120(B) of the IPC.
According to the police, the deceased Rajat Kumar Padhan of Ainlachua village under Sadar police limits had gone missing from his house at about 6 PM on June 24.
Despite a frantic search by Padhan’s family members and fellow villagers in the nearby areas of the village, he remained untraceable.
On the next day (June 25) Padhan’s body was found over the railway track near Khujenpali village. Following the recovery of the body and subsequent report of the Station Master Bolangir, the GRP registered an unnatural death (UD) case.
During the course of the investigation into the man missing report lodged by Padhan’s father (Nirakar Padhan) on June 24 at the Sadar police station and the subsequent recovery of Padhan’s body from the railway track, the police on the basis of local, human, scientific and technical intelligence and pieces of evidence gathered came to the conclusion that it was preplanned brutal murder committed by Suryakanta Selma, Rajib Bagarty and the four CCLs and they had tampered with the evidence to escape from punishment as prescribed in the law and had disposed of the body on the railway track near Khujenpali to make it appear like a case of suicide.
The murder was an outcome of love affairs and a dispute thereof between two lovers-deceased Padhan and the principal accused Suryakanta Selma of Siletpada.
According to the police, the accused persons including the CCLs hatched a preplanned conspiracy and murdered Padhan in a bushy area on the outskirts of Ainlachua village by using the aforementioned weapons of offence and carried the body on a motorcycle to the railway track near Khujenpali and dumped it over the railway track after brutally assaulting it.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
