CM Majhi - Ex-Gratia

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of two persons who were killed after a giant display hoarding collapsed near Patrapada–Aiginia Durga Mandap here on Tuesday evening amid strong gusty winds.

The deceased were identified as Tuna Gouda and Sachidanand Pradhan. Several others sustained injuries in the incident and were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment.

In a post on social media platform X, the chief minister’s office (CMO) said Majhi expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the tragic incident. The ex gratia will be provided from the chief minister’s relief fund (CMRF) to the next of kin of the deceased, the CMO said.

According to reports, the hoarding suddenly came crashing down at a busy stretch, trapping several people underneath and triggering panic in the locality. The impact also damaged a few nearby shops.

On being alerted, police and fire services personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Personnel from Bharatpur police station recovered the bodies and sent them to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for post-mortem examination.
