Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, the southwest monsoon seems to be reviving in Odisha as the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in several parts of the state from Wednesday.
According to the IMD, while heavy rain is likely in one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur districts on Tuesday, many places in the state may experience light to moderate rain today. The IMD has also alerted that one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Sambalpur and Bolangir districts may experience thundershowers and lightning.
In a bulletin, the IMD issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rain for another four days in one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj on August 16. Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Sambalpur may receive heavy to very heavy rain on August 17.
Meanwhile, the monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to pass through Amritsar, Karnal, Meerut, Lucknow, Sabour, and Golpara and then shifts eastwards towards to Nagaland. The cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and neighbourhood extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height persisting, added the IMD.
