Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a detailed report from Odisha government over the tragic fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital in 15 days.

The Commission has asked the Chief Secretary Anu Garg to submit a report on the fire incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, which claimed 12 lives. The NHRC took cognizance of the matter based on a complaint filed by Human Rights Front India President Manoj Jena, alleging negligence and lack of fire safety measures at the hospital.

The complainant urged the commission to recommend compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of the deceased and Rs 50 lakh to the injured.

NHRC member Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi has directed the Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report within 15 days. The Commission is expected to take further action based on the report.
