Kendrapara: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday wear a rakhi sent by Kamala Maharana of Odisha’s Kendrapara district on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Kamala, who got a special mention in the 25th edition of Prime Minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme ‘Waste to Wealth’, has made the rakhi from waste materials.
In his ‘Maan Ki Baat’ programme, the Prime Minister praised Kamala’s work and said that she gave a new dimension to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
According to Kamala, she sent the rakhi to the Prime Minister as a mark of affection as Modi referred to her as a sister in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. “I have sent the rakhi made from waste materials to my brother (Prime Minister Narendra Modi). I have sent it with affection for him, as he called me sister in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. I believe he would definitely wear my rakhi on this Raksha Bandhan day,” she said.
“I have done the duty of a sister and I wish his well-being,” she added.
Kamala Maharana is popularly known as Kamala Mausi and she runs a women’s self-help group in Kendrapara. This SHG makes various household items from waste materials like discarded milk pouches and other plastic materials.
