Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including an 8-month-old child, were killed and six critically injured after a truck collided with an auto-rickshaw on State Highway-65 in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday. One of the deceased has been identified as Prabhat Naik.
The injured include the auto-rickshaw driver Binod Samal and a roadside fish seller Ramachandra Behera.
According to reports, the incident occurred near Panchagaon Gas Depot under Tigiria police limits in the district. Six members of a family from 42 Mouza under Cuttack Sadar police limits were going by auto-rickshaw to Gania village in Nayagarh district to attend a 10-day ritual of a relative. On the other hand, the truck was heading to Banki.
Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Tigiria Community Health Centre, where Prabhat succumbed to his injuries. The child had died on the spot.
Three critically injured patients have been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
On being informed, a team from Tigiria police station reached the spot, detained the truck driver, and started an investigation into the matter.
