Bhubaneswar: An e-Cool Bazaar has been built near the traffic intersection in Rourkela to improve the sales of the farmers. The bazaar comprises a common facility center with a cold storage facility having a capacity of 30 metric tonnes.
Various items made by the women of Mission Shakti are sold at the newly constructed bazaar, which is run by the Jaya Matadi Self-Help Group. Aside from the women SHG, around 250 farmers and traders have benefited from this solar-powered cold storage.
Earlier, these women were trained for 21 days in cold storage management, entrepreneurship, team management, assets operations and management, marketing skills, and financial record maintenance to enable them to handle cold storage management efficiently
While some parts of the city already have such cold storage facilities, the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) aims to install them in other places too.
Rourkela emerged as one of the top 15 cities in the Global Mayor Challenge in 2021 to improve the livelihoods of SHG women and prevent the wastage of fruits and vegetables.
