Sambalpur: Four more sluice gates of Hirakud dam were opened to release excess water.
The Dam Authorities decided to open more gates following a rise in the water level of the reservoir due to heavy rain in the upper catchment.
With the opening of more gates, the water is currently being discharged through six gates.
Five gates were opened on the left and one gate on the right side, dam officials said.
The water level of the reservoir now stands at 628.91 ft against the full capacity of 630 feet, while the average inflow is over 1,74,296 cusec.
