Bamra (Sambalpur): In a tragic and shocking incident, a mother allegedly killed her two infant daughters by throwing them into a well in Sargidihi village under Jarabaga Panchayat in Bamra block of Sambalpur district on Friday.
According to sources, James Madki of the village and his wife Sanju Madki had two daughters. On Friday afternoon, Sanju left the house with both the children. After some time, she returned home alone, which raised suspicion.
When James asked about the children’s whereabouts, Sanju reportedly confessed that she had thrown both daughters into a well located in an agricultural field near their house before fleeing the spot.
Alarmed by the revelation, James, along with villagers, rushed to the well and managed to retrieve the children from inside. The two girls were immediately taken to Gobindpur Hospital for treatment.
However, doctors at the hospital declared both children dead.
The deceased have been identified as Suhana Madki (6) and her younger sister, aged around four months, who had not yet been named.
After receiving information about the incident, Gobindpur police reached the hospital and began an investigation. The accused mother has reportedly been absconding since the incident.
Family members of the woman claimed that she had been suffering from mild mental illness.
Police have launched a search to trace the accused and further investigation into the matter is underway.
