Mayurbhanj: The body of a minor tribal girl Saraswati was found hanging in Bhaludhara village under Udala block in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday night.
According to reports, Sita Hansda, a resident of Udala block, had left her 12-year-old daughter at the neighbour’s place and gone to Bhubaneswar to get the girl’s certificate so that she could study in Udala. In the evening, when Sita returned to the village with her husband and went over to the neighbour’s place, she found her daughter’s body hanging. The body reportedly had injury marks.
While the circumstances that led to the girl’s unnatural death are yet to be ascertained, family members alleged that the girl was beaten up mercilessly resulting in her death. Later, she was hung by the neighbours who suspected her of stealing a marigold plant from the backyard.
In her complaint to the police, Sita alleged that her neighbour had killed their minor daughter and hanged her body ‘because she had allegedly stolen a marigold plant from their garden.’
“Why should my daughter inflict injuries on herself and how can she hang herself,” asked Sita Hansda talking to local newspersons.
Meanwhile, Udala police reached the place and registered a case. The body has been seized for post-mortem and an investigation is underway, police said.
