Mentally-Challenged Woman Raped, Stabbed In Odisha’s Nayagarh

Nayagarh: In a disgraceful incident, a mentally-challenged woman was allegedly raped and stabbed at Baunsiapada village under Itamati police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, on Wednesday night.

According to reports, the woman, who was abandoned by her husband, was sleeping on the verandah of a villager in Banoshipada when the incident occurred. Upon coming to know about the incident, the woman’s relatives rushed her to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition.

While the local villagers suspected that an inebriated youth of the village named Suryakant Mohanty alias Panda (40) raped her and fled the spot after stabbing the woman. Meanwhile, the Itamati police have arrested Panda and are currently interrogating him. The police have also launched an investigation into the incident.
