Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area (LOPAR) formed over the southern Andaman-Nicobar Islands and adjoining areas of the Andaman Sea and southeast Bay of Bengal on Tuesday. Under its influence, several coastal districts of Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate rain/ thundershowers in the coastal regions of Odisha.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure area (LOPAR) is likely to move further in the north-western direction and intensify into a depression by November 16.
Several districts of coastal Odisha are likely to receive light to moderate rain due to the impact of the low-pressure area. The intensity of rain is likely to increase from November 16, the IMD predicted, issuing a yellow warning for six districts. Rainfall will continue till November 17, and subsequently, the minimum temperature across the state is likely to drop by 2°C-3°C ushering in winter.
The IMD has warned that the Bay of Bengal will remain turbulent under the influence of low pressure and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea till November 17. The surface winds are likely to blow at 55 to 65 kmph.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahoo on Monday alerted the Collectors of the seven districts about the change in weather conditions.
In a letter to the Collectors of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, and Ganjam, the SRC asked them to be prepared for any eventuality and advise the fishermen not to venture into the sea from November 15 onwards.
