Bhubaneswar: In view of the low pressure that concentrated into a depression over west-central Bay of Bengal, the State government on Wednesday directed the district Collectors to keep a close watch on the situation in sensitive areas.
In a letter to all Collectors, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu asked them to remain vigilant and keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality in the areas for which orange (be updated) alerts have been issued.
“In case of heavy to very heavy rain in urban areas, low-lying areas may have water logging, and roads/drains may be submerged under water. In case of very heavy rain, people of low-lying areas may be shifted to safer locations temporarily,” he mentioned in the letter.
The administration should advise people to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity.

The IMD advice for fishermen should be strictly implemented. Farmers may be advised to take necessary measures to protect the vegetables, horticulture crops, standing paddy crops, harvested crops and paddy in mandis, the letter read.
The SRC asked the Collectors to report heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The IMD, in its latest bulletin, stated that the low pressure intensified into a depression over west central Bay of Bengal.
It is likely to move initially northwestwards, then north-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on Thursday morning. Thereafter, it would recurve north northeastwards and reach over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on November 17.
The Met department has issued yellow warning for districts like Puri, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.
