Ganjam: Two minor girls, both sisters, drowned while bathing in a pond at Kirtipur village in Narandrapur panchayat under Hinjili police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Roshni Rout (10) and Sandhya Rout (7), daughters of Reena Rout of Kirtipur villager.
According to reports, the sisters went to bathe in the pond with their maternal grandfather Narshu Palei. They soon ventured into the deep water and started drowning. Hearing their cries for help, local villagers rushed to rescue them, but after hours of effort, their dead bodies were fished out of the pond.
On being informed, Hinjili police reached the village, recovered the bodies, and launched an investigation into the deaths.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the village as the news of the sisters’ death spread.
