Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned twice – first till 12.00 noon and again till 4.00 pm following pandemonium over tribals’ land transfer issue on the second day of the Winter Session on Wednesday.
Soon after the House assembled for the day’s business today, BJP MLAs rushed to the Well holding placards and shouted slogans. Sometime later, Congress members also joined them in opposing the state government’s move.
Speaker Pramila Mallik adjourned the House till 12.00 noon amid pandemonium.
After the House assembled after noon, pandemonium prevailed again as the Opposition legislators continued with their demand and agitation inside the House. This made it difficult for the Speaker to continue with the proceedings and she adjourned the House for the second time till 4.00 pm.
Later, talking to the media outside the Assembly, BJP leader and Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi said, “Agricultural land belonging to tribals is being grabbed on the pretext of industries and mines. The BJP demands withdrawal of the decision of the government regarding the transfer of land by tribals.”
