Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on the third day of the Winter Session on Thursday over the issue of the transfer of tribals’ land to non-tribals. As the situation inside the House became unruly, Speaker Pramila Mallik adjourned the proceedings till 4.00 pm today.
Soon after the House assembled for the day’s proceedings, opposition BJP legislators rushed to the Well of the House carrying placards and shouting slogans making it difficult for the Speaker to conduct the business of the House.
The functioning of the House was disrupted on Wednesday too owing to the ruckus created by the Opposition on the issue and the Speaker adjourned the House till 4.00 pm.
“We had moved a motion demanding cancellation of all legislative business on Wednesday to hold a special discussion over the matter. Today also, we are persistent in our demand. However, the Speaker rejected our demand. We demand that the Chief Minister should withdraw the decision regarding the land transfer rule,” said Mohan Majhi, Opposition Chief Whip and BJP MLA, speaking to reporters outside the House.
