Bhubaneswar: The State government advised the fishermen not to venture into deep sea areas of central Bay of Bengal from December 1 due to the low pressure brewing over the south Andaman sea and adjoining Malacca strait.
In a letter to the Collectors of coastal districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha and Ganjam, the Special Relief Commissioner asked them to remain alert.
According to IMD, low-pressure area over south Andaman sea & adjoining Malacca Strait moved westwards and lay over south Andaman sea today.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 30. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over the southwest & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours.
Under its influence, squally wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to occur over central Bay of Bengal adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal from December 1. It is likely to become 50 to 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on December 2. The sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough during the period.
