Bhubaneswar: During the ongoing Tiger Census in Odisha, a remarkable sighting has thrilled wildlife enthusiasts—a highly elusive black panther was spotted in the state’s forests.

Susanta Nanda, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Wildlife, delightedly shared two captivating pictures of this majestic black panther on his X handle.

The location, understandably was withheld by Nanda, to ensure the safety and security of this rare species.

Nanda expressed his excitement about the unexpected discoveries emerging from the camera trap tiger census in Odisha, emphasizing the diverse and fascinating wildlife present in the state.

This extraordinary finding serves as a poignant reminder of the crucial need to protect the distinct habitats and species thriving in the region.

Earlier, the Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district had witnessed sightings of black tigers or pseudo-melanistic tigers.

These rare creatures, characterized by a striking dark stripe pattern against a lighter background of white or golden fur, have only been camera-trapped within Similipal National Park to date.

These discoveries spotlight the significance of conservation efforts to safeguard these unique animals and their habitats for generations to come.
