Rainfall Activity Predicted In Odisha Over Next 4 Days, Heavy To Very Heavy Spells At Places

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall activity in some districts of Odisha over the next four days beginning tomorrow with heavy and heavy to very heavy spells in some places.

Accordingly, the weather agency has issued ‘Yellow’ and ‘Orange’ warnings for some districts.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam at one or two places over the rest districts of coastal Odisha, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha on Sunday.

Similarly, on Monday the IMD warned that heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam and has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for these districts. Besides, light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur in many places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, and at a few places over the districts of Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

On Tuesday, the IMD warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam and has issued an ‘Orange’ alert for these districts. Besides, it has warned that heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Puri. Further, light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur and at many places over the rest districts of south interior Odisha, north coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north interior Odisha.

On Wednesday, the IMD warned that heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada. Besides, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur in most places over the districts of coastal Odisha, and in many places over the rest districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and at a few places over the districts of Odisha.

According to the IMD, the deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over Southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, it would move northwestwards and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamilnadu coasts by the 4th December forenoon.

Thereafter, it would move nearly northwards almost parallel and close to the south Andhra Pradesh coasts and cross South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Nellore and Machilipatnam during the forenoon of 5th December as a Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.

Under its impact, squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph likely from the 4th December evening along and off Odisha coast (Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur), likely to gradually increase becoming 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph from 5th December evening for subsequent 12 hours. It would gradually decrease thereafter. Also, strong surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph likely over Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts of Odisha on 5th December. Rough to Very Rough to sea condition is likely from the 4th December evening till 6th December.

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into deep sea areas of the southwest Bay of Bengal till the 4th of December and West Central Bay of Bengal from the 2nd to 5th of December, along and off the Odisha coast from the 4th of December evening to the 6th December.
