Nabarangpur: The wild bear that killed a man from Madhya Pradesh engaged in a road construction project on Bharatmala National Highway under Nabarangpur police limits in Odisha on Saturday morning fell into a deep ravine and died.
According to the reports, Brijesh Kumar Diwedi (50) was attacked by a bear on early Saturday morning while he was pitching a tent along with other labourers at a place near Bhatrasuni village. He fought hard against the wild animal but did not last long. When his colleagues at the site tried to save him by attacking the bear, it fell into a deep ravine and died.
It is reported that the bear went crazy after killing the construction worker and several people armed with various traditional weapons trying to kill the animal. Trying to escape from the spot after injuring some other men, the bear fell into a deep ravine and died, DFO Shubhendu Prasad Behera said.
According to Behera, the bear fell into a 15-foot gravel mine and died. The carcass of the bear was recovered and the body and sent for autopsy.
Nabarangpur police and Forest department personnel reached the spot, recovered the body of the construction worker, and took it to Nabarangpur district hospital for autopsy. A U/D case has been registered in this connection at the Nabarangpur police station.
