Bhubaneswar: Security has been beefed up across Puri town given the inauguration of the Puri Srimandir Parikrama on January 17. Talking to the media on Friday, IG Asish Singh said, “We are putting in place a fool-proof security for the event and 44 platoons of the police force are being deployed from today till the event ends on January 17.”
The Puri police have put a 5-tier security in place for the event that will be attended by several VIPs and lakhs of devotees. The event begins on Friday with a special yagna and will continue till January 17 when Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the Puri Srimandir Parikrama.
“We have installed 135 CCTV cameras across Puri town to cover each minute incident round-the-clock and the police force will be led by five officials in the rank of Additional SPs, 10 DSPs, and 30 Inspectors. Besides, we are deploying a BD team of trained policemen, canine squads, an anti-sabotage team, and surveillance teams from Friday till the end of the event on January 17.”
The authorities have also installed face-reading devices at vantage points for security purposes.
Special security arrangements have been put in place for the place where the yagnas will be performed on Friday evening. The security arrangements will be tightened on January 17 and the details along with traffic guidelines will be made public on January 16.
IG Singh assured that darshan for devotees will be unhindered during these days. The devotees can enter Srimandir as they do now even during the ceremonies related to the inauguration of the Puri Srimandir Parikarma.
Meanwhile, following the completion of the yagnas today, the devotees will witness a light and sound show.
