Keonjhar: A fast-track court in Keonjhar on Wednesday awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a 21-year-old youth after convicting him of raping a minor girl.
According to reports, Keonjhar fast-track court judge Bijay Kumar Mishra today sentenced one Bijay Kumar Barik of Daitari police limits to 20 years RI under section 6 of the POCSO Act for raping a minor girl after examining the statements of 20 witnesses.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Barik. The court ruled that on default of payment of the fine Barik has to undergo RI for six months more.
The court has recommended for payment of Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia to the victim.
