Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of Congress on Monday took out a rally from Congress Bhawan alleging rampant corruption in mines, energy, health and education sectors.
Pradesh Congress Committee President Sarat Pattanayak and Odisha Congress In-charge Ajoy Kumar spearheaded the rally which culminated at Lower PMG Square.
According to sources, the Lower PMG Square turned into a battlefield when hundreds of Congress workers led by Patnaik and Kumar tried to barge into Lok Seva Bhawan. Also, a scuffle broke out between police and the Congress agitators when the latter tried to break the initial security cordon. They came down heavily on state government’s overall failure in its tenure spanning over 24 years.
A surge in unemployment and women atrocity cases has prompted the Congress workers to hit the street, claimed sources.
Police, meanwhile, detained the agitating congress workers.
