Balasore: The body of a pregnant woman was found hanging at her in-laws’ house at Mahinsamunda village under Khaira block in Balasore district on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sasmita Sahu. While Sasmita’s in-laws and husband claimed it was a suicide death, her parents alleged that she was murdered.
According to sources, Sasmita was married to Dipak Behera for the last eight years. She was eight months pregnant. Dipak returned home late at night on Thursday for which an argument ensued between the couple. Later, they went to sleep. Dipak was taken back to find Sasmita hanging from the ceiling fan after he woke up in the morning.
Meanwhile, Sasmita’s family alleged that she was killed and hung in the fan to give it a name of suicide. The deceased’s family members filed a complaint with Khaira police in this regard. They accused Dipak of torturing her over trivial issues.
Dipak said, “I was busy in tent work yesterday for which I returned home late at 2 am. She was a little upset about it. She asked me the reason for being late before we went to sleep. When I woke up, I found her hanging in the ceiling fan. I was drunk for which I was in deep sleep. I did not realize when she took the extreme step.”
