Bhubaneswar: A CTO & GST Officer of the Enforcement Unit in Puri has been apprehended by Vigilance sleuths while accepting bribe from a person to release his detained vehicle.
Manas Ranjan Behera, CTO & GST Officer was caught while receiving Rs 30,000 in front of Zilla School, Puri.
As per provisions of the Government, the complainant had already paid GST penalty amount Rs.79, 200 March 19. Still the accused officer Behera did not release his vehicle and demanded Rs. 30,000 to free the vehicle.
Finding no other way, the vehicle owner narrated his harassment before the Vigilance Authority. Accordingly, the vigilance officials nabbed Behera while accepting illegal gratification
The entire bribe amount of Rs 30,000 has been recovered from the exclusive possession of Behera and seized.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations of the officer from DA angle.
In this connection, Vigilance registered a case U/s 7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Investigation is in progress against accused officer Behera.
