Bhubaneswar: A retired woman Health Visitor of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Khuntagaon in Sundargarh was convicted and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 2,000 in a bribery case.
A special vigilance court in Sundergarh also ordered Mathamani Rath to undergo three months more rigorous imprisonment in case of default of payment of fine.
The Court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years with a fine of Rs 1,000. In default of payment of fine, she has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for two months for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Rath was arrested in 2016 by Vigilance for accepting bribe from a woman health worker for verification of OPD register, Pregnancy register and OPCC register relating to distribution of medicines.
The convict, Mathamani Rath was sent to jail custody today to serve her sentence.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of her pension following her conviction.
