Bhubaneswar: With many parts of Odisha witnessing an alarming rise in temperature, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Saturday directed the Director of Sports and Youth Services to restrict outdoor sports activities as part of measures to contain sunstroke cases.
In a letter, the Additional SRC mentioned that it has come to the notice of the Odisha government that outdoor game activities like cricket, football and hockey are going on during hot summer in many areas of the state. Expressing disappointment over it, the SRC directed to Sports Department to restrict enforcement on all outdoor sports activities between 11 am to 3 pm during hot summer.
“Keeping in view the weather conditions it is requested to take precautionary measures and restrict all outdoor game activities like cricket, football, and hockey during hot summer. Strict enforcement shall be made on the restrictions of all outdoor sports activities stated above,” read the letter.
Going by the data given by the Public Health Department, eight persons including five from Angul and one each from Bhubaneswar, Mayurbhanj and Sundergarh, have been hospitalized after suffering from sunstroke. All of them are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. However, no sunstroke death has been reported in the state so far.
