Bhubaneswar: In preparation for the upcoming 2024 election, enforcement has been intensified under the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) jurisdiction.
According to a press release issued by the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, as many as 438 number of Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) have been executed and 1719 NBWs have been recalled/disposed of.
All the NBWs have been uploaded to the Commissionerate website. Also, all the Police Stations have been instructed to display the list of NBWs on their notice board.
As many as 849 numbers of proceedings under 107 Cr. P.C. have been initiated against 4006 persons and 1897 persons bound downed. Proceedings under section 110 Cr.PC has been initiated against 160 numbers of habitual offenders and a total of 111 persons bound down to date.
A total of 591 kgs of contraband Ganja and Brown sugar of 1606 grams were seized and 54 persons were arrested. A substantial quantity of illicitly distilled (ID) liquor totalling 11300 ltrs and IMFL totalling 688 litres have been seized and a total of 212 persons have been arrested.
During special drives by the Special Crime Unit Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, 5 numbers of illegal firearms and 24 pieces of ammunition have been recovered while 2 persons have been arrested so far.
Total 860 numbers of licensed guns have been deposited at the Police Stations and 403 more numbers of guns are in the process of getting deposited.
Out of a total 1117 number of booths, 149 booths have been identified as critical. One Company of CAPF and local police are conducting flag marches in critical areas to instil confidence. Steps will be taken to deploy CAPF and to have webcasting in all the critical booths.
Commissionerate Police will further intensify blocking and checking, and set up nakas in strategic places to detect illegal transportation of cash during the election process.
