Bhubaneswar: Sweltering heatwave conditions continued to sweep across Odisha with maximum day temperature shooting up to 43°C and more in at least 15 places across the State on Wednesday.

According to the evening bulletin of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) regional centre here, as many as 28 places in the State recorded a maximum day temperature of 40°C or more.

Similarly, at least seven places in the State registered a maximum day temperature of 44°C or more.

Talcher was the hottest place with maximum day temperature soaring to 45°C followed by Boudh 44.5°C, Titilagarh 44.5°C, Nuapada 44.4°C, Angul 44.3°C, Jharsuguda 44.3°C, and Bolangir 44°C.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded maximum day temperature of 41.3°C and 41.5°C respectively.

Several places in coastal Odisha got a little respite from the intense heatwave following the nor’wester.

The IMD has said that day temperature may slightly drop in places experiencing nor’wester. But, heatwave conditions will continue. A red alert has been issued for the next two days, an orange alert for May 3 and 4 and a yellow alert for May 5.

The day temperature is likely to decrease by 2-5°C after May 5, the IMD added.
