Heatwave Condition Likely To Prevail In Odisha For 3-4 Days More: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave condition continued to prevail in Odisha on Thursday with mercury soaring to 42°C and more in at least three places by 2.30 PM.

The IMD in a special bulletin has warned that heatwave is likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha during the next 3-4 days.

However, heatwave conditions are likely to abate from May 6 onwards, the IMD added.

According to IMD’s regional centre here, Jharsuguda was the hottest place in the State by 2.30 PM with temperature reaching as high as 42.6°C followed by Sambalpur 41.3°C, and Keonjhar 42°C.

Similarly, mercury breached 41.8°C at Hirakud, 41.8°C at Rourkela, 41.2°C at Balasore, and Chandbali at 41.2°C.

Seaside towns like Puri, Paradip and Gopalpur remained comparatively cooler with 33.6°C, 33.5°C and 32.8°C respectively.

As heatwave condition is very likely to prevail on Friday in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, and Nuapada. The IMD has issued an ‘Orange’ warning for these districts.

Similarly, heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in the districts of Bargarh, and Balasore.

Besides, hot & humid weather condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam.

The IMD has issued ‘Yellow’ warning for these districts.
