Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Rayagada has been called off after he has been announced as the party candidate from Raebareli. Rahul will file his nomination papers today because May 3 is the last day for filing nominations for the fifth phase of the election scheduled to be hit on May 20.
According to sources, he was supposed to visit the tribal-majority Rayagada district today to address his second public meeting in the state ahead of Lok Sabha and state assembly polls.
Apart from addressing a ‘Nyay’ rally in Rayagada and speaking on tribal and OBC-related issues, Rahul was supposed to address another public rally in Bolangir district to raise the issues of unemployment and migration. However, he cancelled his visit as he has file his nomination today.
It is learnt from Congress party’s press release that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat and Congress loyalist KL Sharma has been fielded from the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency.
