Bhubaneswar: In a dynamic showcase of civic responsibility and active citizenship, students of SAI International Residential School (SIRS) took center stage at an Electoral Awareness Program hosted by the Odisha State Election Office on Friday.
Facilitated by Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal, the event served as a platform for 32 Class XI & XII students to delve into the nuances of democratic processes.
Themed “The Election – the Festival of Democracy,” the program aimed to cultivate a robust understanding of voter motivation and awareness strategies among the youth. Through interactive sessions and engaging presentations, students were immersed in topics ranging from election fundamentals to the intricacies of Odisha’s unique voting system.
A highlight of the event was the students’ active participation and insightful queries, particularly regarding Form No-6 and the operational efficiency of the Election Commission. Additional Chief Electoral Officer N. Thirumala Naik, and ACEO Satrughna Kar led discussions on voting challenges, sparking innovative suggestions from the enthusiastic participants for enhancing online voting solutions. Deputy CEO Padmaja Dash and Deputy CEO Anamika Singh also present in the meeting.
Emphasizing the importance of fostering voting engagement, officials highlighted the significance of the students’ role in shaping India’s democratic fabric, especially in addressing gender disparities in voter turnout observed in Odisha.
As the program concluded, officials commended the students for their exemplary civic participation, recognizing them as ambassadors of democracy and the future leaders entrusted with upholding India’s democratic values. The event underscored the vital role of education in nurturing informed and responsible citizens, poised to drive positive change in society.
