Nor’wester Rain Cools Off State As No Weather Station Touches 40 Degrees C Mark

Bhubaneswar: In a major relief from the gruelling heat, the mercury plummeted to below 40 degrees C in the State under the influence of nor’wester rain that lashed the capital city and several other districts on Monday.

No station touched 40 degrees C today. Mercury reached 39.3 degrees C in Malkangiri making it as hottest place in the state.

Kendrapara and Sundergarh recorded 38.6 and 38.2 degrees C respectively. Sambalpur became the fourth hottest recording 37.5 degrees C.

Mercury plummeted to 37.4 degrees C each in Jajpur and Nayagarh.

Residents of Twin city-Bhubaneswar and Cuttack received a major respite from the heat wave as the silver city reported 33 degrees C and Capital city witnessed 32.2 degrees C.

As many as 20 towns recorded below 35 degrees C. Bolangir and Titilagarh saw a dip in maximum day temperature by 10 degrees Celsius. Mercury plummeted by 8 to 9 degrees C in several interior parts of Odisha.

The temperature came down to as low as 25.5 degrees C in Nabarangpur.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast said rain will continue till May 9.
