Bhubaneswar: Several places in Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain and lightning on Wednesday too.
The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms and lightning in seven districts of Odisha. The districts that are likely to experience heavy rains on Wednesday include Angul, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
According to the weather office, kalbaisakhi is likely to continue in several areas of Odisha during the next two to three days bringing down the day temperatures further. The IMD said thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and lightning with gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely to occur between May 8 and May 10.
The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khurdha, Puri, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh today.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has appealed to the district Collectors to take precautionary measures to minimise the damages during thunderstorms and lightning. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and take necessary measures to avoid lightning strikes.
