Fighting Elections With No Cash, But Big Dreams: SUCI’s Koraput LS Candidate Pramila Pujari

Bhubaneswar: In elections in India, money, muscle, and solid campaigning strategies are pivotal in determining the winning chances of a candidate.

However, there are still some candidates who are not backed by solid financial, political and support from the corporates but still aspire to win votes through organic efforts. One such candidate in the electoral race is Pramila Pujari who is out on a journey to represent the mass interest rather than the interest of the corporates.

A 25-year-old, daily wager, Pramila Pujari is out to contest elections on her own, competing alongside other heavy-weight candidates. She is contesting on the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) ticket.

Pramila has garnered public attention with her simplicity and courage to fight elections with a nominal amount of Rs 20,625 in her bank which is disclosed in her candidature affidavit, making her the poorest M.P (L.S) candidate from Odisha.

She has been active in politics since 2016, as a student leader in the party’s student wing, All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO).

In a telephonic interview with Ommcom News, Pramila said, “I am fighting for provision of land pattas (record of rights) to landless farmers, protection of natural resources and strengthening of educational infrastructure in Koraput district which is in a dismal state.”

She highlighted that her objective is to develop proper road connectivity and generate employment for all.”

On being asked about, who do you think is the primary competitor in the electoral race?

Pramila said, “All parties whether it’s BJD, BJP or Congress represent the capitalists. They are my competitors. I represent the working class, peasants and the landless. My fight is against them all and their foul means to win and influence people through liquor and money.”

Shedding light on the qualities which make her different from the opposition, Pramila said, “I am contesting elections for the people with the money collected from them. My understanding of people’s needs, integrity, dedication, empathy, and ethical values make me different from my counterparts.”

In her concluding statement, Pramila urged voters to follow their conscience and vote for the right candidate.
