Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a minor girl was killed in a hit-and-run incident on Padmakesarpur road in Bhubaneswar on Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Bhumika Das, the eight-year-old daughter of Maguli Das of Padmakesarpur village.
According to reports, Bhumika was returning home on a bicycle after completing her tuition when she was suddenly hit by a speeding mineral water-laden pick-up van. While the girl died on the spot, the driver of the vehicle fled the spot before anyone could identify it.
Soon tension prevailed in the area as agitated locals staged a road blockade to protest the hit-and-run accident and demanding the arrest of the accused driver. They also demanded adequate compensation for Bhumika’s family members.
On being informed, Mancheswar police personnel rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the fatal accident. They seized Bhumika’s body and sent it to the Capital Hospital for postmortem.
