Bhubaneswar: In a bid to up the ante ahead of the final phase of the twin elections in Odisha on June 1, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced several welfare measures for the farmers on Friday.
On Friday, the BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that if elected to power for the sixth time, his government will provide interest-free loans of up to Rs. 1.5 lakh to all the farmers in the state.
In addition, the new BJD government in the state will grant Rs 500 crore to build state-of-the-art warehouses in mandis across Odisha. The scheme aims to alleviate the problems of the farmers who often find it difficult to carry their produce to the mandis and back home if left unsold. The BJD has also announced a slew of other benefits for the farmers to win their votes ahead of the upcoming Phase IV elections in the state.
