Bhubaneswar: Additional District Judge-I on Friday granted interim bail to BJP’s Khurda MLA Prashant Jagdev who was arrested on May 26 for allegedly toppling an EVM and manhandling two polling personnel in a booth while the voting process was underway.
Hearing the case, the court granted him bail for three days from June 9 to June 12.
According to his lawyer, Jagdev was granted bail so that he could attend the oath-taking ceremony of the Odisha Chief Minister and be a part of the tenth-day death ceremony rituals of his near ones.
It is pertinent to note that police arrested Jagdev for toppling an EVM and manhandling two polling personnel in booth no 114 of Kaunripatana under Bolagarh block under Bengunia Assembly constituency while the voting process was in progress on May 25.
Based on the complaint filed by the presiding officer, police arrested and sent him to jail.
Later, Jagdev was brought from Khurda jail and rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in the wee hours of May 22.
He is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Medicine ward of the hospital, sources said.
