Bhubaneswar: Upset over her wedding being cancelled, a young girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Nuatipilei village under Bhuban police limits in Dhenkanal district, on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Premananda Pradhan’s daughter Dipa.

According to Premananda, Dipa, who was pursuing post-graduation, was in love with Chintu Dalei. Both the families decided to solemnise their marriage after they came to know about their affair.

The groom’s family cancelled their wedding due to some reason. This did not go well with Dipa who committed suicide by hanging herself in a ceiling fan last night, alleged Dipa’s father.

Dipa reported to have written her fiance’s name and his number in her palm before taking the extreme step.

Bhuban police, meanwhile, seized the body and sent it for post-mortem to ascertain the real cause of death.

Police also launched an investigation into it.
