Malkangiri: BSF personnel have busted a Maoist dump in the Bejangiwada reserve forest along the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border during a combing operation in the area on Thursday.

According to an official press release, 3 SBML (Single Barrel Muzzle Loader) guns in dilapidated condition, 1 SBML barrel, 4 electric detonators, 98 gelatin sticks of 125 gms each, 2 improvised directional mine, 1 solar plate, medicine bottles, saline bottle, empty LPG cylinders, battery, etc have been recovered from the dump.

Acting on specific information personnel of BSF 142 Bn located the dump while combing the area in the Bejangiwada reserve forest along Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border. The dump was located within rock cavities of the mountain along the forward slope of the Bejangiwada reserve forest near Dulagandi village in Kurmanur panchayat under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district.

Bejangiwada reserve forest area has long been a Maoist stronghold, which cadres and sympathisers of the Red Rebels used for their survival. These Maoist outfits used to keep IEDs, IED making materials and arms etc in isolated places to target the security forces/police operating in the area. The BSF is actively operating in Malkangiri district and extensively dominating the area and enhancing the sense of security among the locals. The recovery of IEDs and other materials is a significant blow to Maoist activities, which would demoralise their sympathizers active in the area. It would also motivate security forces to operate more actively in the region.

In the wake of recovery, further combing and search operations are going on in the area.
