Bhubaneswar: Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha is set to head the BCCI’s Men’s Selection Committee, while former India opener Shiv Sunder Das has been named a member of the five-member panel, bringing two prominent cricketers from Odisha into key roles in Indian cricket administration.
Ojha will take over as chairman following Ajit Agarkar’s exit, while former India spinner Ramesh Powar has also been inducted into the selection committee.
The new panel comprises Ojha as chairman, along with Shiv Sunder Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Powar. The committee is responsible for selecting India’s senior men’s team.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, conducted interviews at the BCCI headquarters before unanimously recommending Powar’s appointment.
Ojha will assume the chairperson’s role based on seniority, determined by the number of Test matches played.
The appointments have drawn appreciation in Odisha, with former chief minister Naveen Patnaik congratulating Ojha and Das on their new responsibilities.
In a post on social media platform X, Patnaik said it was a matter of great joy that the two cricketers from Odisha had taken on important roles in the BCCI’s selection setup.
“Their achievements have brought pride to Odisha,” Patnaik said, extending his heartfelt congratulations to both cricketers and wishing them greater success in their future endeavours.
