Bhubaneswar: Two minor sisters sustained severe burn injuries after a mobile phone exploded at Lakhari village under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district, on Monday.

According to sources, two sisters identified as Namita Raika and Sushila Raika were watching a video clip on a cell phone when the mobile phone exploded.

while one sister received injuries in her hand, another sister sustained burn injuries on her leg.

Family members of Namita and Sushila rushed to the spot and rescued the duo in critical condition. They were immediately rushed to Chandragiri Community Health Centre (CHC) where they are currently under observation. While the exact reason behind the explosion is yet to be ascertained, their parents attributed the blast to overheating.

Notably, a similar incident was reported from Mangarajpur village under Badamba block in Cuttack district a few days back on June 15. A five-year-old child had sustained burn injuries following a mobile explosion.
