Bhubaneswar: A police sub-inspector of Kujanga police station in Jagatsinghpur was nabbed by Odisha vigilance for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a person.
The SI, Bibekananda Sahu, was the Investigating Officer (IO) of a miscellaneous case registered against the person due to a family dispute.
He had moved the Court which had ordered the IO to release him on bail. However, despite frequent approaches, the SI demanded Rs 8000 bribe for his release. Finding no option, the complainant approached the vigilance authorities, following which a team was despatched for laying a trap, vigilance said.
The accused SI received the bribe amount and left Kujanga PS towards Jagatsinghpur. The vigilance team chased him and caught him on the way.
Search at the three locations of the accused is going on, vigilance added. The accused police officer was arrested and will be forwarded.
In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance registered a case U/s-7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
