Bhawanipatna (Kalahandi): A married man and his sister-in-law (wife’s sister) consumed poison at Palasapani village under Koksara police station in Kalahandi district. They took the drastic step after family members and villagers tried to intervene in their love affairs.

The man, identified as Tulsiram Naik of Palaspali village died in hospital while sister-in-law Sunita Bodkia is undergoing treatment at district headquarters hospital.

According to reports, Tulsiram was in a relationship with his married sister-in-law Sunita of Dahigaan in Chhattisgarh for long days.

They have eloped away on Tuesday. However, family members of both families and villagers caught them and held a meeting to find a solution. At that time, both of them took some time, went away from the meeting place on pre-text of personal conversation and consumed poison at that time.

Villagers rescued them in critical condition and shifted them to Dharmagarh sub-divisional hospital. They were referred to district headquarters hospitals after their condition deteriorated.

Tulsiram, however, was pronounced dead at the hospital while his sister-in-law is undergoing treatment in a critical condition.

Police seized the body of Tulsiram for post-mortem and started an investigation after registering a case.
