Dengue Spike In Odisha As 488 Cases Detected So Far This Season

Bhubaneswar: With the onset of monsoon, the spectre of dengue has returned with to the State. As many as 488 dengue positive cases have been detected so far this season, Director, Public Health, Dr Nilakantha Mishra said.

A total of 35,470 tests have been done so far this season. Khurdha has witnessed a maximum 130 positive cases, he added.

The Health department found 33 dengue positive cases yesterday. The cases are rising in the state due to the rainy season, Mishra informed.

A high-level meeting chaired by chief secretary was held yesterday in the presence of all secretaries. All departments have been alerted and guidelines have been issued to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

School headmasters have been asked to alert the children and make them aware of the vector-borne disease.

Students are being advised to use mosquito nets in the hostel. Mishra advised that special attention should be paid to the school and hostels.

Meanwhile, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has stepped up measures to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes. The civic body has focused on most of the dengue hotspots. An awareness vehicle is plying the city lane and by-lanes to sensitise people.

In view of the mosquito breeding season, the civic body has intensified spraying of mosquito larvicidal (ML) oil in drains, Temephos on residential premises.
