Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths today seized a huge amount of suspected ill-gotten cash from a sarpanch in Golamunda block of Kalahandi district.
The anti-graft officials intercepted Dinesh Kumar Rout, Sarapanch of Brundabahal GP under Golamunda Block near Khaliakani while he was proceeding to Brundabahal from Golamunda in his Bolero vehicle bearing Regd. No.OD-08-C-5335.
The vigilance team found Rs 5.4 lakhs of suspected ill-gotten cash in his possession.
The entire amount was seized after the sarpanch could not account for satisfactorily. Besides seized cash, his Bolero vehicle was also seized, the vigilance said through a press release.
Following the interception, search is being carried out at two locations of Rout from DA angle. He is being examined to ascertain the source of the funds, officials said.
