Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness rain spells during Durga Puja even as southwest monsoon is set to withdraw from the state next week.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper-air cyclonic circulation is likely to form over north Andaman Sea around October 12. It may trigger a low-pressure area the following day, which is expected to move into the Bay of Bengal and intensify into a depression, moving towards Andhra-Odisha Coast in the subsequent days. The system may bring widespread rainfall to parts of Odisha during the festive period.
In its extended-range forecast till October 14, IMD has also indicated a low probability of a depression forming over central parts of south Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal around October 15. Meanwhile, southwest monsoon withdrawal is continuing across the country and is likely to begin in Odisha next week, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.
The state is expected to remain mostly dry for the next two days, with light to moderate rain likely at isolated places in some districts thereafter for three to four days. Officials said more clarity on the system will emerge once it appears in the medium-range forecast.
