Bhubaneswar: The Low Pressure Area (LPA) over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh lay as a Well Marked Low Pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal at 1730 hours of IST of today 26th July 2024. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.
It is likely to move west- northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand & north Odisha during next 24 hours.
Under the impact of the developing weather system heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul with heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy spells at places.
While the IMD has issued ‘Orange’ warning indicating scattered heavy to very heavy falls(7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, it has issued ‘Yellow’ warning indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh and heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occurat one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Jajpur, and Jharsuguda during the next 24 hours.
Similarly, the IMD has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning indicating heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Cuttack, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nawarangpur, Koraput, and Nayagarh on Saturday.
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Friday instructed collectors of the aforementioned 13 districts to remain alert and review preparedness as heavy rain is likely to occur.
The SRC has asked Collectors to review the preparedness at the district level, take appropriate action and inform the situation of the district from time to time.
